We had some gloriously rainy days this past weekend and I spent the weekend burrowed up in blankets and drinking coffee. Like I said, it was glorious. Not that I don’t love all the California sunshine, but it’s nice to have a down day and catch up on housework and do a little reading. I haven’t had much time to read lately because we’ve been so busy and I’ve missed cuddling inside with a good book. I realized that I haven’t done any book reviews in awhile so I thought I would let you in on what I’ve been reading.
I love a good mystery, so it comes as no surprise that most of what I’ve been reading lately are suspense thrillers . A few months ago I was on a real Liane Moriarty kick and read her books Big Little Lies and The Husband’s Secret. Both very good and both had such an interesting twist on your average mystery. I loved that in each book it was written from several different women’s point of view which helped keep the suspense high and the ending a surprise (which is hard to do sometimes when you read so many mysteries). I also read her book The Hypnotist’s Love Story which wasn’t equally as suspenseful as the others but I still enjoyed it.
A few months back I took a break from all the mysteries and read All the Light We Cannot See by Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Doerr. This was a different and I would even say more challenging read for me with its very descriptive imagery and historical drama. But still a beautiful story about a young girl and a young boy who meet in an unexpected way as they both try to survive World War II.
I am currently reading After You which is the newest release from the British novelist Jojo Moyes and the sequel to Me Before You, which I had to read again after the movie was released in June. So far, I’m loving continuing the story of Louisa Clark and watching her life and heart expand after the events in the first book. Per other reviews I had read on After You, I knew I had to separate this one from the first and not compare the two since the first is hard to beat. Knowing this has helped me truly take in the story and the uniqueness of it and really it is a great story on its own. I’ll have to give a more thorough review on it once I’ve finished.
